Active School Flag & Tidy Town Clean Up Day

For our Active School Flag and also while working with the Athenry Tidy Town volunteers, 3rd to 6th class took part in our first ever,
 BIG CLEAN UP DAY!

At 11:30 all classes got their coats, high visibility vests and rubber gloves on. Off we went outside to start tidying around the school with Celia, Helen and Pat from the Tidy Towns committee. The 3rd & 4th class went out to the school garden & carpark, the 4th & 5th class went to Templemoyle & 6th tidied from the school down to the pitch. A few of the 'interesting' items found were socks, tic tacs, bird feathers, a wheel, wet tissue & a t-shirt.

A very big "THANK YOU" to all the teachers & staff members for their help in making the day such a success.

Míle buíochas to Celia, Helen, Pat for taking time out of their day to help us. It was very kind of you to join us and help out.

Thanks to Sharon from the Athenry News & Views who came to take photos while we were busy making our school a nicer place to learn and play in.

Thanks also to Gabe Cronnelly for providing bags, pickers and gloves for us.

We had a very busy day because we made pancakes for pancake Tuesday afterwards.

A productive day, indeed!

Look At Our Infant Yogis

There are so many benefits of yoga classes for children.  The practice of yoga is completely non-competitive and the philosophy behind it helps children to respect their body and mind, calm themselves and appreciate and understand the benefits of exercise and relaxation.

We love our Yoga sessions in Junior Infants. We put on relaxing music, find a peaceful space and practice our Yoga sequence. Our balance, coordination, flexibility and concentration are improving all the time.

Active School Week With Junior Infants!

What an amazing week! We have had so much fun this week and learned so many new skills. We started off the week with the amazing Aoife from Ultraflex. She taught us how to perform a cool dance to The Jackson Five's hit Rockin Robin.

We were also lucky to have some 6th class students with us on Monday. They set up an obstacle course in the afternoon. We had to jump over hurdles, hop through hoops, throw bean bags in a bucket and kick a ball to score a goal. We even got to go on the trampoline and at the end we played some parachute games. We had a great day.

Next up was Stretch 'n Grow with Helen. We absolutely loved it. Helen is so energetic and creative. We did a superhero obstacle course, searched for Scooby snacks and performed lots of Spiderman exercises. It was great!

On Wednesday Lee from SkipHop taught us some basic skipping skills. Some of us were a bit nervous but Lee showed us that everyone can skip. By the end of the session we were even jumping Double Dutch. Ms. Fahy was so impressed with us.
